On Monday, May 29, the Township of Colts Neck will commemorate Memorial Day with its annual Memorial Day Parade, Ceremony at Memorial Park and Picnic at Fire House Company #2. The parade ceremony and picnic combines as one of the highlights of the year, where the Colts Neck Community gathers to pay tribute to those military personnel who died while on active duty.  The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at Township Hall, 124 Cedar Drive and concludes at Memorial Park, 242 Heyers Mill Road.  The free picnic is held after the ceremony at CNFD, Fire House #2, 50 Conover Road, for all participants.

There will be opportunities for youngsters to march with Colts Neck Sport Foundation teams and other township sports organizations as well as the Daisey’s, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts or ride on a decorated bicycle, after the contest.

For those youngsters and adults, not affiliated with an organization, there is an option to participate in the Pet on Parade section, where pet owners are asked to outfit their pet in red, white and blue and join us in the 1.5-mile route. Pets must be kept under control with a leash, harness, bridle or other restraint. Please remember to bring an ample supply of water for your pet for the parade. There will be water available at Fire House #2 during the picnic.

This year we plan on holding events rain or shine. If inclement weather threatens information can be obtained by calling 732-780-6666 or consulting the Township website at www.coltsneck.org.

I look forward to seeing many of you on Memorial Day.
