The Colts Neck Library's collection is aimed primarily at meeting the community's requirements for pleasure reading and school assignments. The collection consists of approximately 35,000 items, including regular and large print books, audiobooks (on both CD and tape), and educational and entertainment DVDs and videos.   The library also subscribes to over 70 magazines and four daily newspapers. Approximately 2,000 of the library's books belong to the Catherine "Kitty" Henning Cookbook collection. This collection was donated by the estate of the late Mrs. Henning, a long-time Colts Neck resident. The complete cookbook collection at the Colts Neck library is one of the largest cookbook collections in the state of New Jersey, totaling approximately 4000 volumes.
The library staff consists of one full-time librarian (Virginia Lyon), one full-time and one part-time library assistant (Eileen Lynch and Lilian Hayes), a children's librarian (Dale Mellin), and two student assistants. The children's librarian is now on duty 14 hours a week and offers many popular programs, including two pre-school storytimes per week, two toddler storytimes, and craft and film programs for both preschool children and students from K-4th grade. In coordination with the Colts Neck Schools, a program also exists wherein each first grader in Colts Neck visits the library, obtains a library card, and is provided a tour by the librarian.
