ROAD TRIP

Terri and Taylor were best friends who always went on road trips.  They were going on a vacation to Florida.  They lived in Georgia, pretty close to Florida, so they were driving.

Their mothers were going with them because they were only nine years old.  Driving there was really boring until something got their attention.  The car started to make weird noises.  Taylor’s mom pulled over by a swamp.

“We have a flat tire,” she said.  “If we don’t get help by tonight we are going to have to sleep in the swamp.”

“The swamp is too scary to sleep in,” said Taylor.

            “Why?” said Terri.

“Because there are crocodiles, snakes and lizards that live here.”

“I never thought of that,” said Terri.

The girls roasted hot dogs on a campfire.  They knew they would stay for the night.

Soon it was time for bed.  Luckily they brought their sleeping mattresses.  But they couldn’t sleep.  They were afraid that a crocodile would eat them.

“Terri!  Terri!” screamed Taylor.

“Yes?” said Terri.

“I think I see a crocodile.  It’s looking at us.”

Terri flashed her flashlight at the crocodile.

“It’s only a log with two rocks on it.  Go back to sleep!” said Terri.

A little while later Taylor screamed again.  “Terri!  Terri!”

            “Yes!”

            “I hear a snake hissing!”

“Your sleeping mattress just has a hole in it.  That’s why it’s hissing,” said Terri.

            “Oh,” said Taylor.

Terri couldn’t get any sleep with Taylor screaming.

Finally it was morning.  Taylor’s mom made a fire with matches she found in the car.  Taylor made smoke signals in the fire to help.  A little while later, a plane circled overhead.  They all started jumping up and down and waving their arms.  But the plane flew away.

They couldn’t believe their eyes.  They started to cry but their moms told them the pilot probably called for help.

Their mom was right.

Ten minutes later a police car drove down the highway.  They told the policeman they had a flat tire and he fixed it.  He also shared donuts with them.

Now their moms know never to go on a long road trip without a cell phone.
